Writing

In writing, our grammar focus will be on how conjunctions join words, phrases, or clauses (parts of sentences) to make complete sentences. We will revise and edit our narrative writing pieces using our 5th grade checklist. We will conference with our writing buddy and teachers to get multiple perspectives on how to get the message across to the reader.

Science

In our Earth Systems unit explore the ecosystem of the Chesapeake Bay. We will use the link below to explore the 64,000 square miles that makeup the Bay watershed, which is home to more than 18 million people.

Math

In math, we will continue to explore patterns in the number of zeros of the product when multiplying a number by powers of 10, and explain patterns in the placement of the decimal point when a decimal is multiplied or divided by a power of 10. We will apply concepts of whole-number exponents to denote powers of 10.

Reading

In reading, we will continue to read our novels and determine the theme based on the details in the text, including how characters in a story respond to challenges or how the speaker in a story reflects upon a topic and then summarize the text.
