Writing

As we progress through our narrative writing unit, we will continue to develop and strengthen our writing as needed by planning, revising, editing, rewriting, or trying a new approach. In addition, we will analyze other author’s for writing techniques to use in our own craft. Our grammar focus will looking at how verb tense shows past, present or future time.

Science

In our Earth Systems unit we will discover that not all resources are renewable. Nonrenewable resources are those that cannot be replaced quickly enough to keep from running out. We will study the fact that materials that form very slowly are nonrenewable. Coal, oil and natural gas formed slowly from the remains of plants and animals that lived long ago.

Math

In math, we will explore patterns in the number of zeros of the product when multiplying a number by powers of 10, and explain patterns in the placement of the decimal point when a decimal is multiplied or divided by a power of 10. We will apply concepts of whole-number exponents to denote powers of 10.

Reading

In reading, we are reading novels and applying the skill of summarizing. We will summarize a written text read aloud or text presented in diverse media and formats, including visually, and orally. We will also be summarizing the points a speaker makes and explain how each claim is supported by reasons and evidence. Our class read aloud is a Mystery and students will be doing a book project on a mystery of their choice.
