Week of September 24, 2018

Writing

We are going to select a seed idea (a small moment) from our writing journals and develop the story into a publishable writing piece during the course of the week.

Science

We will develop an understanding of each of the Earth’s major systems (geosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere and the biosphere).

Math

We will solve word problems involving division of whole numbers leading to answers in the form of fractions to explain what part of a whole is left over. We will be taking a Unit 1 assessment at the end of the week.

Reading

We will continue to read nonfiction text and build our skills with determining main ideas and key details. We will also have continue to select important quotes and paraphrase them into our own words.

Week of September 17, 2018

Writing

We will continue to generate ideas for writing by exploring small moments in our lives, turning points and places that are meaningful. We will create journal entries in our writing journals.

Science

We will answer the question “How much water can be found in different places on Earth?”

Math

We will find whole-number quotients of whole numbers with up to four-digit dividends and two-digit divisors, using strategies based on place value. We will apply the properties of operations, and/or the relationship between multiplication and division.

Reading

We will read non-fictional text with the purpose of quoting accurately from the text when explaining what the text says explicitly and when drawing inferences.

Writing

We will generate ideas for narrative writing by creating small moment stories. We will establish a situation, introduce characters and a narrator, events in a story.

Science

We will we will obtain and combine information about ways individual communities use science ideas to protect Earth’s resources and environment.

Math

We will use the multiplication algorithm to multiply a multi-digit number by a whole number and apply this concept to a real world context.

Reading

We will read non-fictional text with the purpose of determining two or more main ideas of a text and explain how they are supported by key details and then summarize the text.
